What can one add to one's home that's unique, romantic, inexpensive and useful? A treehouse. But not just any treehouse, of course, we're talking a grown-up, walled-in, furnished arborial pad with electricity and running water.

The L.A. Times has photos of some elaborate treetop getaways being used by couples and families as backyard escapes which may be shared with raccoon families and the occasional squirrel. They're not very big--and fairly impractical--but the benefits (a place of peace and calm, somewhere cloes to get away from it all for a few hours) seem to far outweigh the logistical challenges.
