Just a week before the Republicans take to the airwaves and people tune in to watch them pontificate about whatever it is they're passionate about, President Bush said that otside ads such as the Swift Boat commecial have no place in the campaign, adding that John Kerry "served admirably and he ought to be proud of his record." Bush is currently taking a well-deserved vacation from all the stuff he does in the White House, like mowing the lawn while the Vice President thinks of new places to have wars.
The ad in question is no longer running, and when it was on the President refused to condemn or call for its removal. Meanwhile, $60 million worth of advertising critical of the President is ready for the convention, and he doesn't seem as pleased with that idea for some reason.
Former Sen. Bob Dole added his voice to the melee, suggesting Kerry apologize for his 1971 anti-war testimony to Congress and implied that Kerry's three Purple Hearts were not the result of actual war wounds since he "never bled that I know of."
Topics such as education, welfare reform, health benefits, prison terms for drug use, hate crimes, highway system refurbishment, clean water and the environment were not discussed by anyone.
