Clay Shirky has a saying that's something like "the network finds its own uses," meaning that when you setup a system to share bookmarks and it becomes a way for people to send notes to each other, just roll with it, because people will figure out ways to use your software in ways you never imagined.

I notice instances of this all the time, but one has to do with Pierre Omidyar, cofounder of eBay and now venture capitalist ("A++++ USED BUY IT NOW TO INVEST 5MIL, WOULD ACCEPT SEED MONEY FROM AGAIN!!!"). He has an eBay account just like you and I, and he has a feedback page. Over the eight years he's had it, a variety of folks have found it and realized that in addition to leaving feedback from sellers and buyers, you can just leave a random message for Pierre. It looks like dozens of folks figured this out and left quite a few turds, most going back years ago when eBay was frequently unstable, and there's a message to signify every policy change eBay ever implemented.

Urban Dictionary is a favorite resource site for figuring out "what the kids are talking about." It has encyclopedic coverage of all sorts of everyday slang (I never have to tell a friend what feltching is ever again!), but once in a while you see something that doesn't quite fit. In the definition for the word "Apple," most of which talk about Apple Computer, there's this entry which is sort of using Urban Dictionary as a blogging tool to share comedic gems.

Users. You never know what they're going to do next.
