Microsoft's version of iTunes is expected to make its online debut this Thursday, and if it's anything like Sony's "iTunes Killer," expect a great big thud.

The new store, part of Microsoft's MSN network of disjointed AOL-like services, will be in beta, launched to coincide with their new Windows Media Player software. Songs will be in Windows Media format (not supported by iPod) and cost the usual .99¢ each.

When Apple launched iTunes initially, Microsoft had no plans to build what it called "a closed proprietray service," but it sounds like they've changed their tune.
