Arnold's toy tanks

The governator's childhood recollections at the Republican Convention this week aren't exactly, well, true, according to Austrian historians.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke of "tanks on the streets" and the Socialist country that Austria became after the Soviets left" in 1955, but there were no tanks and when Arnie left Austria, and for about 25 years before that, the country was ruled by conservatives, not Socialists.

His countrymen don't seem too concerned by his True Lies, with one Vienna waitress showing her understanding of American politics by stating, "You've got to tell the (convention delegates) what they want to hear in order to win them over. Politicians always talk the way it fits into their agenda."
