Will a good deed go unpunished?

This idea is so good it can’t possibly last. Pew charitible trusts and the Gates Foundation (yes, Bill’s) are teaming up to devote one billion dollars a year to send every high school student in America who’s willing to go to a third world country for six weeks. I’m trying not to be jaded, but you just know that there will be some ugly lawsuit that makes it all come crashing down eventually, but meanwhile, let’s hope they get a lot of takers. This is possibly one of the most inspired investments in the future of the country seen around these parts in years.

Aptly named America Looks Beyond, it’s explicitly an alternative to the militaristic take on the war on terror.
