Rather not

Weird, surly, out-of-touch, possibly insane CBS anchorman Dan Rather is leaving his post in March of next year, but whether or not his departure has anything to do with Rathergate remains a mystery.

Danny boy, who has been attacked by homeless people, lived aboard a UFO, was eaten alive by crocodiles and is the actual model for the statue of Willie Mays at SBC Park in San Francisco served as the face of CBS News for longer than anyone should, really, particularly when they are insane.

No replacement has been named, but we’re puling for Saddam Hussein, who is currently unemployed.

The Mother of cheeses

That 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich with the face of the Virgin Mary on it that almost got eaten but miraculously ended up on eBay (wonder of wonders!) sold for $28,000 to GoldenPalace.com, an online casino.

Yes, it seems only just that a fried sandwich bearing the likeness of the mother of the Savior of several hundred million people should be purchased by a gambling establishment.

Personally, I’m going home to fry me up some pancakes and see how long it takes before my Calphalon manages to burn the spitting image of Jesus hisself into the delicious doughey center. I figure if half-eaten cheese Mary is worth 28K, Jesus on a flapjack is 50, 75K easy.

Putting U in 'customization'

Jeans for $35 custom fitted to your body. A doll with the face of your child, right down to her freckle pattern. Fleece jackets made-to-order. Nikes with your name on them. All this and so much more is available today via the modern miracle of Mass Customization.

Smarter software is what’s allowing the prices to drop on getting exactly what you want, the way you want it, in only a few days. Lands’ End will even let you return something you personally customized, but don’t expect other retailers to follow suit.

It’s not “you break it, you bought it,” it’s “you designed it, it’s yours and only yours.”
