It's apparently so difficult to get school children to open a book and actually read about something, that the Maryland public schools are giving in and building a curriculum around comic books.
I'm sure it's just old age and curmudgeonlyness on my part, but dammit when I was in school, we hid the comics in our backpacks (which, I must point out, did not have fucking wheels on them!) and they managed to be fun instead of, ahem, ed you kay shun uhl.
Frankly, if they really want to keep those kids' attention, they should just bypass comics and go straight to porn-based learning. I mean, take a look at the leader of this country -- it doesn't appear that education makes a whole lotta difference anyway.
I think it's a good idea, if the kids are the right age.
If they are young enough, it may give them an in to slowly but surely understand complex stories and be able to discuss them.
Worked for me, although I didn't know it at the time.
Sorry, I think it would help.
