A 10x8 inch painting of a young woman seated at a harpsichord garnered a winning bid of US$30 million, and chances are the last Vermeer to see the auction dais is headed to Las Vegas.

The small portrait, “Young Woman Seated at the Virginal,” was shrouded in doubt for years, but Sotheby’s is really, really, almost entirely certain it’s the real deal, painted by the Dutch master with or without a pearl earring.

The winning bid came in by phone, but most agree the painting will soon join Steve Wynn’s other masterpieces, possibly to be shown at his new über casino opening next Spring.
