Nike posted a 25% rise in quarterly profits, based on strong demands for high-end running shoes and over-priced, fairly ugly basketball shoes here in the U.S.

“People need fast shoes to run away from falling buildings and anthrax-contaminated mail packages,” a company spokesperson did not say. “I think we’ll continue to see profits rise, and as a reward to our employees we’re raising the hourly rate in some overseas factories 10%, going from 25¢ per hour all the way up to 27.5¢!”

Factory workers in Indonesia and China were overjoyed at the news, some planning on spending the additional income on food and using the rest to pay for food.
